'Whatever power has taken hold of the TARDIS has taken your pen.' 'There's a difference between resting and being sort of... bone idle.' 'No, impossible at this temperature. Besides, it's too warm.' 'And if you'd had your shoes on, my boy, you could have lent her hers.'

UP ABOVE THE GODS: Although this Doctor's perpetual verbal sparring with the Daleks was never much cop (faced with such endless pomposity - "Take over the earth, you say?" - you felt they really would've silenced him with a quick zap), the bits when you saw the machines alone and swaggering about were always ace. Premier example: the stuff on location in London during The Dalek Invasion Of Earth, with the gimmick, later incessantly recycled, of having them parade about in front of touristy landmarks. We also like the fact that, cos the programme was on all year during Hartnell's tenure, there'd be episodes when one of the regulars would be on holiday and you'd only see them on film, or in long shot from behind, or they'd be "in the TARDIS". Finally, of course, there's "And incidentally, a happy Christmas to all of you at home!" - the best scene in Doctor Who ever. Fact.
