THE
COMPANIONS: Mockney sailor BEN JACKSON and swingin' sixties
Carnaby Chick POLLY LOPEZ (well, that's her surname according to
The Faceless Ones, and who are we to argue with a story where the
lack of visual evidence of the titular villains allows it to live
up to its name in impressively postmodern style?) saw him through
the regeneration and stuck around for a few stories worth of being
spooked by Cybermen and Macra; Historically displaced clansman JAMIE
McCRIMMON ("Oh Jamie, if only it were that simple") whose
accent supposedly 'mellowed' from a gruff incomprehensible drawl
to 'TV Scots' (whatever that might be); Suspiciously well-developed
Victorian teenager VICTORIA WATERFIELD who did little but scream
and occasionally make reference to popular cultural items of her
era; And twenty first century scientist ZOE HERRIOT who managed
to combine fiddly scientific jargon-filled dialogue with prancing
about in catsuits and thrusting her behind at the camera in 'surreal'
sequences. Although not strictly companions at this stage, BRIGADIER
ALISTAIR GORDON LETHBRIDGE-STEWART and SERGEANT BENTON were also
introduced during Troughton's tenure.
