TRIAL OF A TIME LORD: And it all started so well. The decision to have not just the Brigadier, Yates, Benton, Jo but the Master as well in every single story turned proceedings into a predictable pantomime. Every week the Doctor, bedecked in flowing robes and satins, would stride off to rescue some peace conference or other, while the Brigadier choked on rude sounding acronyms (TOMTIT) and the Master impersonated a janitor. Then suddenly we were off into space again, watching the Doctor settle major political disputes across the universe with boring preachy fables about potatoes and Venus. When the Brigadier grew long hair it was all over.
