TRIAL OF A TIME LORD: Later Baker stories often degenerated into sub-Python silliness (not that that's necessarily a bad thing) due in part to Mary Whitehouse's public campaign to reduce the horrific elements of the show, but mainly because Douglas "HITCH-HIKERS" Adams had a major hand in the scripts. New titles and arrangement of theme revamped the show for the '80s, pre-Davison. Now rediscovered by whole new generation of junior viewers, courtesy of daily repeats on UK Gold, Tom Baker's time on the series was hugely inclusive for kids "of all ages". But a quick flick through his autobiography ("Who On Earth Is...") reveals a bit too much about the cuddly Doctor's off-screen boozing and shagging than perhaps we wanted to know.
