UP ABOVE THE GODS: Adric's death at the end of Earthshock, followed brilliantly by no theme music, just silence and the credits running over his crumpled gold-rimmed badge, which he'd used to try and fend off the caratphobic Cybermen. Memo to all producers ever: it's brilliant when you don't tell us stuff is going to happen. Everyone remembers The Five Doctors, of course ("Splendid fellows, all of you!") with Pete arseing around with Terry Wogan for Children In Need afterwards. We also have a soft spot for a BBC festive promo we saw once around 1982, with all the faces of BBC1 bidding us yuletide felicitations, including Peter and the TARDIS crew peering through the door and, with echoes of Hartnell's demented toast from 1965, shouting "Merry Christmas!" to us all. We really want that to appear as a DVD extra, BBC Worldwide.
